FEATURE: Time's up for Daniel Sturridge

28 January 2017 with Ryan McQueen

Thanks Dan, it's time to leave.

For those of you who have seen the movie “old yeller” then this article is kind of following that story closely.

The halcyon days of Daniel Sturridge storming a game scoring braces for fun are seemingly done. He made a statement up on signing for Liverpool that he was ready to “settle down” after jumping to several different clubs in a short space of time.

Daniel's partnership with Luis Suarez is something that Liverpool hasn't seen since the early 90’s and desperately needed. Upon Luis’s departure in 2014 we began to see a different Daniel Sturridge, he tried several different strike partners but non could assist him or take him to the same level as Suarez did.

Since Jurgen Klopp has implemented his Gegenpressing system at Liverpool, Sturridge (as well as several long term injuries) has found himself out of favour. I put Sturridge in the same category as Emre Can, I see him as detrimental to our style of play and what we set out to achieve in a football match.

The number 15 has been given several starts over the last few months, and any slight reservations I did have no longer remain, players like Roberto Firmino & Adam Lallana’s creative & goal scoring influence are hampered by Sturridge’s inclusion.

Once the summer comes I believe Daniel Sturridge has to be sold regardless of even if he wants to be sold or not.
