Both Sadio Mane and Roberto netted in the first half of this thrilling Premier League fixture while Wijnaldum hit the back of the net in stoppage time to help Liverpool win convincingly in a crucial match for Champions League qualification.

Early on in the game, Mane put a splendid low cross into the box which Firmino made quick work of placing it into the back of the net. Firmino replaced the favour later as he passed it into the path of Mane who drilled it in.

After the break, Welbeck of Arsenal pulled one back but the Liverpool defence held firm after that and let no ball past. In the 91st minute, Wijnaldum made sure that it was going to be a win as he sealed the deal with his late finish.

Much was at stake at Anfield as the reds desperately needed to win after a disappointing match against Leicester City where they went down 3-1. A victory for the Gunners would have seen them four points in front of Liverpool with a game in hand as well as a consolation after the defeats against Chelsea and Bayern Munchen.

Arsenal had to do without Mesut Ozil due to illness. Wenger left star forward Alexis Sanchez on the bench as he preferred to use Oliver Giroud.

In attack Arsenal looked fruitless as they were without their star men. They failed to make any good attacks in the first half and the game was all but decided when Sanchez came on at half time as Welbeck’s goal was not enough to spark a comeback.

The victory over Arsenal sees Jurgen Klopp’s men leapfrog into third as their title race continues.
